Manager, US Taxation

The Brookfield Infrastructure Group (BIG) is one of Brookfield primary operating business units. The Infrastructure Group operates and manages over $60 billion of assets owned through its public vehicle, Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP which is listed on the NYSE and TSX, and its unlisted private investment funds. Our portfolio is comprised of long-life, high quality infrastructure assets with high barriers to entry that  generate stable and growing cash flows. Our portfolio of infrastructure assets are primarily in the utilities, transport, energy and communication infrastructure sectors, located in North and South America, Europe and Australasia.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, US Taxation on a day to day basis and the VP, Americas Taxation on a formal reporting line basis, this newly created role of Manager, US Taxation will assume primary responsibility for US tax compliance for Infrastructure Group. More specifically, the role entails coordinating all aspects of US federal, state and local tax compliance for the group, including serving as point person for any tax authority interaction, assisting with the tax oversight and initiatives of US entities and quarterly tax provision preparation for US entities. In addition, the new role will take responsibility for coordinating tax compliance of the Infrastructure Group’s private funds. Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely filing of US federal, state and local tax returns ;
  • Coordinate the federal, state and local quarterly estimated tax payments required;
  • Log and respond to all corporate tax correspondence with US taxing authorities;
  • Prepare and maintain current U.S. tax basis figures and earnings and profits balances;
  • Manage the responses of investor tax inquiries for various private funds ;
  • Identify US federal, state and local efficiency opportunities in and support he implementation of selected BIG Tax initiatives;
  • Manage K1 tax reporting for certain private funds sponsored by Brookfield Infrastructure;
  • Manage K1 tax reporting for Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP;
  • Coordination with other operating business units in respect of tax accounting matters, tax sharing payments and other tax issues within the US ax group,
  • Assist in the tax management and oversight  of US portfolio companies; and
  • Assist with the preparation quarterly IFRS tax provision for Brookfield’s Infrastructure US corporate tax group and coordinate IFRS tax provision for BIG operating subsidiaries.

Requirements:

This position offers an opportunity for growth within the Infrastructure team and the wider Brookfield group. To qualify, candidates must have:

  • 3-6 Years (CPA designation preferred) of experience working with Private Equity and/or Infrastructure funds in the tax group with one of the BIG 4 or top tier Investment Firm.
  • Strong grasp of and experience with tax accounting under US GAAP and/or IFRS;
  • Strong technical knowledge of US tax rules relating to taxation of consolidated tax groups, including related compliance rules;
  • Experience managing large tax compliance processes and assignments;
  • Basic understanding of cross-border tax issues and US treaty analysis;
  • Ability to communicate complex tax matters in a clear and concise manner;
  • Strategic and long-term thinker with strong analytical, and creative problem-solving ability;
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a very fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent project management skills and applies a pragmatic and efficient approach to handling complex assignments;
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels in the organization;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Strong leadership skills; ability to provide direction and coaching.
