Finance, Intern (Summer 2018)

Brookfield is now a CPA pre-approved training office. Students will have the opportunity to earn their CPA experience during their internship at Brookfield. This role is ideal for students who are interested pursuing their CPA designation.

You will be placed into a finance team within one of Brookfield’s business units: Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Estate and Brookfield Corporate. This opportunity will allow you to learn firsthand what areas you are most interested in, by having exposure within financial planning and analysis, reporting, treasury, corporate audit, taxation, investor relations and/or corporate finance.

Aligned with our ‘grow from within’ talent strategy, our internship program will provide students with a fall, summer or winter work term, and the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, aptitudes and teamwork to potential full-time employment.

Position Summary:

As a Finance Intern, reporting to the respective Finance Manager of the business unit, you will actively participate in a variety of accounting activities and collaborate with all levels of the organization. Specifically, responsibilities include:

  • Assist with quarterly financial statements and reporting
  • Prepare variance account analysis and related schedules
  • Maintain general ledger for corporate entities
  • Execute full-cycle accounting transactions
  • Execute cash management functions
  • Assist with external financial reporting and other key documents
  • Gather and summarize information on audit and investor queries
  • Ad hoc analysis or collaboration with corporate and global platforms on various reporting
  • Support the business' initiatives to promote streamlined processes, operational efficiency & internal controls

Requirements:

  • Completed a minimum of 2 years of an undergraduate degree with a focus or major in Accounting or Finance
  • Interest in pursuing an accounting designation (CPA)
  • Eager to learn, develop and apply finance and accounting concepts
  • Proficient with MS Office (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • An analytical and curious mindset and constant attention to detail
  • Open-minded, with a willingness to develop and build relationships 
  • Comfortable working in a professional, corporate and fast-paced environment

Duration: 4 month internship (Summer 2018)

Office Location: Downtown Toronto, Ontario
